More About Travis
Travis Woods is the creator of Collaborative Advice. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholder with 15 years of experience, Travis partners with physicians and their families to help them make financial decisions in their best interest.
Travis began his career in 2008 after receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from Mississippi State University. He started his career with a firm in Jackson, MS that had recently joined a regional firm out of Houston, TX – Stanford Group Company. Nine months later, he was being escorted to his desk by attorneys from the federal government to gather personal items because the chairman of Stanford Group Company, Allen Stanford, had been indicted for a $7 billion fraud. Travis had just witnessed firsthand what it looked like when people were taken advantage of and knew he wanted to create something different.
Rather than being disheartened, Travis was inspired and challenged, to gain more knowledge and experience to prevent him or his future clients from being prey for another large company. He returned to Mississippi State University to complete an MBA. Upon graduation, he went to work for a few experienced advisors who cared about their clients and genuinely desired to help people enjoy life now and in the future through sound financial planning. Simultaneously, he continued his education and earned the CFP® and CFA designations to learn more about the technical side of giving advice.
In July 2015, Travis was introduced to a physician that had just completed training and needed some financial guidance. Through this relationship, he became aware of the precarious position a lot of physicians find themselves – little to no financial education and a target for financial product salesmen. He became passionate about helping this group and decided to build a business exclusively for them. Like the medical community, he believes a team approach leads to the best outcomes and this is the foundation on which he built Collaborative Advice.
Travis is a member of the CFA society of MS. He and his wife Whitney have two daughters and two sons.
